It was bad with bipolar transistor also.  I'm back to studying theory and apps.
A Philips/NXP app note, (http://www.nxp.com/documents/application_note/APPCHP2.pdf),
covers the range of topologies of inductor and transformer power
converters and I'm going to set up like one example.  The second winding seemed used as a
Royer oscillator in the laser printer, but there is another way to use that with a microcontroller:

The second winding can be used just to reverse the magnetic flux and drive back to zero so it doesn't saturate.
I was seeing current just keep on an on in the previous photo and worse in some other tests yesterday afternoon.
The long current was being driven by the inductor.  So, I'm studying and testing re: the forward converter
and push pull converter switching power supply designs of the above app note.
