The BLE radio combined with micropython could be great.

There are ways evolving to use BLE for IP packets:

https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-ietf-6lo-btle-17

Nordic has made a working hardware/SW package:
https://www.nordicsemi.com/eng/Products/Bluetooth-Low-Energy2/nRF5-SDK-for-IoT
"It includes an IPv6 over Bluetooth Smart adaptation layer (6LoWPAN) and a complete Internet Protocol Suite including IPv6, ICMP,
UDP, TCP, DTLS, TLS, CoAP and MQTT. "

Micropython has MQTT and the bluetooth IP seems possible when that next chip comes out.

Wifi sucks power compared to BLE!
